The Palace on Wheels journey began in 1982 with its inaugural journey on 26th January. Since then, POW has gained immense popularity in Rajasthan. Within a few years of its launch, Palace on Wheels earned a spot among the ten best luxury trains in the world.
The aesthetic interiors of its 14 coaches reflect the royal history of the former Rajput states offering one of the best heritage train journeys in India. Each saloon on the train features a separate mini pantry that ensuring a variety of hot and cold beverages for the tourist. The modern coaches filled with thoughtful conveniences include sofas and smartly placed reading lights along with comfortable beds and furniture. It also offers inbuilt wardrobes along with significant glass windows for countryside views. However, the meals served on board are equally impressive. Sheesh Mahal, one of the train’s restaurants is designed based on the Amer Fort which has fitting with mirror work and it gives the guest's reflection of themselves as a unique feel. The interior also showcase Tigri work, a traditional art form, adding a professional, artistry touch. On the other hand, Swarn Mahal restaurant depicts the actual beauty and richness of the Rajasthani cuisines and makes each meal that guest savors on board a memorable one.
